The Three Signs That Show It is Time to Replace a Water Heater
When to Call Your Plumbing Service Provider for a Water Heater Replacement
Your water heater works for your all the time, but you probably do not give it too much thought until it starts malfunctioning. However, you could pay attention to several signs that can signify your water heater needs replacing or maintenance.
Your Water Heater is Old
Every homeowner should know the age of the water heater in their house. Fortunately, if you do not know that, you can easily find this information by checking the serial number of your water heater. It is usually located somewhere near the top of the unit and consists of a letter followed by a string of numbers. If the letter is C, that means the water heater was made in March, because C is the third letter in the alphabet. The next two numbers tell you which year the water heater was manufactured. If the manufacturer of your water heater has a different way of numbering its products, all you have to do is contact the manufacturer and find out the age of your water heater with the serial number. If that age is more than ten years, you should probably replace your water heater.
You Notice Rust
It is never good to have rust on any part of your plumbing system, and least of all in the water. If you notice that the warm water you get is rusty in color or taste, that probably means there is actual rust in the water. This is a sure sign that there is rust in the tank of your water heater. If left unattended, the rust will spread through to the outside of the tank and can cause the unit to leak. Call your plumbing service provider to check your water heater.
The Pipes are Noisy
There are many reasons for your pipes to make noises. If the rumbling or banging your hear come from your water heater, it’s a sure sign that the sediment at the bottom has hardened. While it is perfectly normal to find sediment in your water heater, if it starts hardening, that means your water heater is malfunctioning and might not function for much longer.
